The National Audit for Small Animal Neutering (NASAN)

  1. All you need to do is identify the animals in your practice that have had a routine spay or castration in a set period of time.

  2. Using the spreadsheet supplied for each case, identify:

  • the date of surgery
  • the procedure
  • the grouping.
  1. Click on the ‘Download spreadsheet’ button above to open the spreadsheet, then save it on your computer somewhere you’ll be able to find it again easily.

  2. Enter the information as described below.

  3. When you’ve finished, submit the completed submission form using the form on the ‘submit data’ page. Please put a reference to your practice in the {practice ref} of the file name.

Date: Note the date of surgery

Procedure: Note whether it was a spay or castrate to a dog, cat or rabbit

Grouping: Select the appropriate group from the list:

  • Group 0: Lost to follow-up (when follow-up was expected)
  • Group 1: No complication reported
  • Group 2: Complications noted but no treatment was required
  • Group 3: Complications noted but only medical treatment was required
  • Group 4: Complications noted and surgical treatment was required
  • Group 5: The animal died

Note: All data from submissions is handled anonymously.

The vetAUDIT group would like to thank all practices that have submitted data. Without their participation, standards setting would not be possible.
